Alan Judd's WWII novel depicts the struggle between love and loyalty and hope against the atrocities of war with keen skill. It's based on the last days of Kaiser Wilhelm's life during the beginning years of WWII and woven into the story is a romance between the head of the Kaiser's SS guard and the Kaiser's maid, who happens to be an English/Jewish spy. HFA Rating: 3.5/5
This historical fiction, WWII era novel is a Pulitzer Prize winner and was on the New York Times Bestseller List for 130 weeks straight. It's that good. It's a work of literary art that everyone should read at least once. HFA Rating: 5/5

Georgia Hunter's debut book tells the story of the Kurc family, based on Ms. Hunter's actual family, and how they survived the Holocaust, but none are left unscathed as they each face different trials and life-ending dangers. The story is beautifully written and the pace keeps the pages turning. HFA Rating: 5/5
